Anaheim is home to Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth. But for some drivers, motorcyclists and pedestrians, things aren’t so happy – especially for those who have been in a car accident. An injury, death, or loss as a result of an accident can take a long time to recover from physically, mentally, or financially. Cohn & Swartzon LLP, Anaheim personal attorneys, have looked at the data of some of the intersections in Anaheim that are not only familiar to you, but are the scene of numerous injury-related accidents. Here’s a look at data from Anaheim car accidents:
Were you hurt by a driver in Anaheim, and you are getting the runaround from them or their insurance? Call LegalHelp123 now at 714-203-2428.
Our team studied 2021 data, the most recent data released as part of the 2024 Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) project by the Safe Transportation Research and Education Center, University of California, Berkeley.
In 2021, there were 1,270 accidents that involved at least one person injured on roads or freeways passing through Anaheim. That total accounts for more than three per day.

Of course, what’s not accounted for in these totals was the pain that didn’t exist moments after the crash. These people indicated nothing wrong at the time of the crash. There’s a very strong likelihood that some of them developed pain hours later, the next morning, or even weeks and months later when they noticed an irregularity within their body while doing another activity.
“Most people don’t realize that after the adrenaline rush wears off post-crash, the physical pain can start to surface. It’s important that they don’t rule out injury within minutes of a car crash because the impact and injuries aren’t often felt for hours or days.”
Jason Cohn, co-founder and partner, Cohn and Swartzon.

If you’ve wondered what are the most common types of Anaheim car accidents, we’ve pulled the data to keep you informed.
Here are the numbers by percentage of different accident types in Anaheim for 2021:
Looking at these totals, we see that an alarming amount of crashes are head-on, nearly 5 per month. We also see rear-end crashes, the most common, only account for 37% of the accidents. Broadside accidents were the second most common, and oftentimes, we see those are the result of one of the drivers running a red light. The point is that accidents can come from any and all directions – facing you, from behind, or from the side.
“What people need to realize is that the effects from different types of impact can manifest in certain ways. Some victims recognize pain immediately; others can discover it down the road. They might be doing something that is pretty common and has always been pain-free, and then they ask themselves, “why am I hurting now?”
Saar Swartzon, co-founder and partner, Cohn and Swartzon.
Do you know when you are most vulnerable to getting into an accident? The 2021 Anaheim data shows us that the hours between three and six p.m. are when the highest concentration of accidents occur. The next sets of noon to three p.m., six to nine p.m., and nine to midnight make up the next highest accident totals.
You will also note that the overnight hours on the weekends are especially high compared to those same hours midweek. It is also a time when there are more suspected drivers under the influence on the road.

Looking at the data, we see that the driver is most frequently injured in a crash. The person behind the wheel is often the most injured in these accidents. The driver accounted for 77% of the injuries in those 1,270 crashes.
151 Passengers accounted for 11.83% of the injured parties. It is also important to mention that 72 pedestrians and 67 bicyclists were injured in those crashes, something to consider if you are walking or riding a bicycle on Anaheim city streets.
The victims also tended to be younger (20 to 29-years-old) and male (56%).

Looking at a map of all of the accidents in Anaheim in 2021, and it looks like a pretty even distribution on streets and freeways.

However, here’s a look at some of the areas with more accidents than others.
There were numerous accidents along Anaheim Boulevard, with Anaheim car accidents occurring consistently at the same cross streets.
These include:
Ball Road was another street where there was a higher concentration of accidents. These intersections included:
Brookhurst Street, which crosses through town past the 22, 5, and 91 freeways, also saw a higher concentration of accidents. These intersections included:
Euclid Street, which runs by Loara High School, Anaheim Plaza and the NORMS at La Palma, canvases Anaheim west to east from Garden Grove into Fullerton. Here are some of the intersections where accidents occur at a higher frequency.
Harbor Boulevard is one of Anaheim’s busiest thoroughfares – with travelers using this road to get to Disneyland, the Anaheim Convention Center, and Great Wolf Water Lodge Park, to name a few.
It is also one of the roads with the highest total of car accidents. Here are the intersections with the highest cluster:
Lincoln Avenue runs parallel to the 91 freeway from east of the 57 freeway, past the Rinks Anaheim Ice, and across the 5 freeway and Savannah High School. Here are some of the intersections where we see an elevated total of crashes.

Anaheim is home to three freeways that run through it, including the I-5, 91, and 22 freeways. While we noted crashes on streets that took place at or near on-ramps and off-ramps for those freeways, these were crashes reported on the freeways.
I-5 runs through Anaheim from the Block outlets to the 91 freeway. Here’s a look at where a higher percentage of crashes were reported.
The 57 freeway runs through Anaheim from the Orange Crush (5, 57, 22 interchange) out towards Fullerton. Here’s a look at where a higher percentage of crashes were reported.
The 91 freeway spans from Buena Park through Anaheim, winding past communities like Placentia toward Anaheim Hills. Here’s a look at where the largest concentration of crashes were reported.
